چکیده

In this issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Wild et al. report the binding and animal biodistribution data of [Lys(Ahx-DTPA-In)NH2]exendin-4 (Ahx is aminohexanoic acid; DTPA is diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid), an analog of glucagonlike peptide-1 (GLP-1) (1). Their results raise high hopes of actually achieving selective and potent receptormediated targeting of tumors with a radiolabeled peptide but, at the same time, revive critical issues on the possibility of predicting the clinical success,

Preclinical study of a new 177Lu-labeled somatostatin receptor antagonist in HT-29 human colorectal cancer cells

Objective(s): Somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors have been targeted using various peptide analogs radiolabeled with therapeutic radionuclides for years. The better biomedical properties of radioantagonists as higher tumor uptake make these radioligands more attractive than agonists for somatostatin receptor-targeted radionuclide therapy. In this study...

Current Status of Radiopharmaceuticals for the Theranostics of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

Nuclear medicine plays a pivotal role in the management of patients affected by neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). Radiolabeled somatostatin receptor analogs are by far the most advanced radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and therapy (radiotheranostics) of NENs. Their clinical success emerged receptor-targeted radiolabeled peptides as an important class of radiopharmaceuticals and it paved the wa...

Rationale for the use of somatostatin analogs as antitumor agents.

BACKGROUND There is a need for novel antitumor agents that demonstrate efficacy in currently refractory tumors without adding to the toxicity of therapy. The somatostatin analogs, which have demonstrated antineoplastic activities in experimental tumor models, and good tolerability and safety profiles are attractive candidates. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data from preclinical studies provide eviden...

Peptide receptors as molecular targets for cancer diagnosis and therapy.

During the past decade, proof of the principle that peptide receptors can be used successfully for in vivo targeting of human cancers has been provided. The molecular basis for targeting rests on the in vitro observation that peptide receptors can be expressed in large quantities in certain tumors. The clinical impact is at the diagnostic level: in vivo receptor scintigraphy uses radiolabeled p...

Ga-68 Labeled Somatostatin Analogs Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are characterized by the heterogeneous nature, frequently indolent course and possibility of multiple and variable anatomic sites of the primary tumor. Somatostatin is a cyclic peptide consisted of 14 amino acids and produced by neuroendocrine, immune, and inflammatory cells. The cerebral cortex, the brain stem, the hypothalamus, the pancreas and the gastrointestina...
